Miss Malaysia World Pageant Week Announcement

The Miss Malaysia World pageant week kicks off on 29 July 2013 at Corus Hotel, Jalan Ampang. The judging starts the minute the finalists check in to the hotel. The finalists will undergo an intensive programme that includes make up, catwalk and dance, fashion talk, exercise, public speaking, social media training, intelligence test, visiting to Metrojaya, Optimax, Wacoal outlets, visit orphanage home, talent contest, interviews and lots more.

PETALING JAYA: The four Muslim finalists dropped from the Miss Malaysia World 2013 pageant may be allowed to compete following a review by the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi). Jawi director Datuk Che Mat Ali confirmed an official meeting with Datuk Anna Lim, the organiser of the pageant, yesterday to discuss the possibility of the Muslim girls being allowed to compete.

Dato’ Anna Lim, the pageant organiser of Miss Malaysia World 2013 had an official meeting with Dato’ Che Mat Che Ali, Director of The Federal Territory Islamic Affairs Department. The meeting was to discuss the possibility of Muslim Girls being in beauty pageants. The meeting was fruitful and announcement may be made by early next week. The 4 Muslim girls may have a chance to be called back and participate Miss Malaysia World 2013.

The four Miss Malaysia World 2013 beauty contest finalists, who were dropped following criticism by a mufti that their participation is “sinful”, are outraged that local Muslim women are facing discrimination based on religion.

They said the decision was uncalled for as other Muslim nations such as Indonesia — where the Miss World pageant will be held in September — do not forbid Muslim women from participating in beauty contests.

Official Statement Regarding Malays In Miss Malaysia World 2013

Dato’ Anna Lim, organizer of Miss Malaysia World 2013 has decided to adhere to the Mufti Wilayah Persekutuan Datuk Wan Zahidi Wan Teh, “Muslim girls are not allowed to be in beauty pageants”. Therefore, she has decided to disqualify the 4 Muslim girls at Miss Malaysia World 2013 finalists named Kathrina binti Rizuan, Miera Sheikh, Wafa Johanna De Korte and Sara Amelia Bernard . The pageant will go on as usual and she is very enthusiastic to put a good show for the non-Muslim girls. She wishes to respect the Muslim religion and wishes the Muslim community ‘Selamat Berpuasa and Selamat Hari Raya’.
